The Albemarle Historical Society will be offering an all-new class about the U.S. Civil War, with a focus on Central Virginia. Class dates February 4 – March 18, 2019.
Award-winning author and celebrated Charlottesville historian Rick Britton will teach this fascinating course about the U.S. Civil War, as part of the Charlottesville Center for History and Culture’s all-new Personal Enrichment Class program. The class will be offered from 6:30-8:30pm over seven consecutive Monday evenings beginning February 4 and running through March 18. All classes will be held in City Space on the Downtown Mall (with convenient parking in the attached Market Street Garage).
Rick will offer an engaging, deep dive into a number of particular battles and personalities, what happened to those from Central Virginia who fought in the war, the critical role of human slavery that led to the conflict and the impact of the South’s Lost Cause narrative that emerged in the wake of the war.
